The Diploma in Society, Health and Development (SHD)
is a new qualification, which involves exciting ways of
learning for young people of all abilities.
Delivery of the Diploma in SHD commenced in September 2008. Delivery will be phased
in until it is available everywhere in England by 2013, when all students will be able to
choose to study for the Diploma in SHD.
The Diploma in SHD has been designed by employers and Higher Education Providers.
It will enable young people to develop an excellent grasp of English, Maths and ICT skills,
while learning through real work and applied learning contexts blended with generic
studies allowing young people to develop personal, learning and thinking skills.
Young people can easily combine science or other options with the Diploma in SHD.
The Diploma in SHD is designed for students considering future careers across four main
occupational sectors – the children and young people’s workforce, health, community
justice and adult social care.
