SIMS [CONTINUED FROM PAGE 111]
Up to four Humvee simulators can
be networked together, and soldiers
see a virtual representation of each
other’s vehicles within the simula-
tion as well as virtual vehicles such
as fuel tankers and even school buses
fi lled with Iraqi children. Carr notes
that terrain is modeled using data
sources from current Iraqi opera-
tional areas, and some previously
deployed trainees actually have rec-
ognized landmarks in the simulator.
Making connections
With the armed forces’ current em-
phasis on network-centric warfare,
linking simulators is becoming the
standard. The Air Force calls it Dis-
tributed Mission Operations, where
simulators at different geographical
locations are networked into a virtual
strike force. “We can fl y up to four F-
15Cs in the mission training center,”
