Our Water Our Future: An introduction
We all want a safe and sufficient water supply.
Our community has no future if we don’t plan for and protect our
water resources. Fortunately, our geography is such that we can
find solutions within our community’s own watershed.
A long term plan for our water needs will help us prepare
for future droughts and to address expected population
growth. The 2002 drought had a major impact on our water
plans. In October of that year, we were within 60 days of
running completely out of public water.
We are also a growing community with a national
reputation for our exceptional quality of life. Over the past
thirty years, we have made decisions as a community to protect
the rural countryside (the source of our water) and to channel
new development into our designated growth areas. New
homes, new businesses, and an expanding University of Virginia
will all rely on public water and sewer.
