WOMEN’S CONFERENCE TO PRECEDE WORLD CONGRESS
The 20th Baptist World Congress, scheduled for July 28 to August 1, 2010, in Honolulu, Hawaii, will be preceded by a
BWA Women’s Leadership Conference.
The women’s meetings will be held from July 24-27 at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel. The conference, held every five
years and coinciding with the Baptist World Congress, will have as its theme, “In Step with the Spirit.”
Bible studies and other sessions will be dedicated to raising awareness of issues affecting women, such as poverty and
the abuse of women and children.
There will be a special emphasis on young women, and attempts are being made to facilitate the attendance of younger
women at the meetings. Hence, plans are afoot to establish a scholarship of US$100,000 to enable women from various parts
of the world to attend.
Information about the conference can be found on the BWA Women’s Department website: www.bwawd.org.

BAPTIST WOMEN’S UNION OF LATIN AMERICA - UFBAL - FOCUS ON CHILDREN
The Executive Committee of the Baptist Women’s Union of Latin America (UFBAL) launched a new emphasis on
children during the committee’s meeting in Lima, Peru, from April 20-21.
Under the theme, “Children, Our Hope for Latin America,” women in Latin America will focus on children and
adolescents who are in risky situations, abandoned, mistreated and hungry. Their objective is “to reach children through the
work of Baptist women in Latin America, in order to rescue them as children created in the image of God.”
In their meeting, UFBAL committee members stated that children have been forgotten in Latin America, beginning in
the family, church and society. The family should be a secure place where children can grow and develop, but sometimes it
is where the children are the most mistreated and where their human rights are violated. The church has also failed to attend
to the children in a way that is necessary.
The women believe that if they share the gospel with children, they will win lives for eternity. When the children become
adults, they will be co-laborers in God’s work. Also, when children come to know Jesus, the entire family is affected.
UFBAL has a new website at www.ufbal.com.
