ell it seems that you are enjoying Propertydrum! More excellent feedback from all

subscriptions for the printed monthly magazine! Clearly we are providing
something that gives real interest and value; but we can only keep the price this low for this

So on to this month’s issue. Is that a light at the end of the tunnel? Or is it a train coming the
other way? As we go to print the parliamentary scandals continue to wind us all up, the banks
still aren’t lending anything like enough, the government schemes set up to help first time buyers
and those in danger of repossession appear to be barely functioning.
I’m not sure there is much to get excited about but the editorial team has, nonetheless, been
digging across the country for signs of life.

Rosalind Russell discovered yields of
eight per cent in the student property
market – and a free bike with some highly targeted units. In the green fields of rural England the
farm and land market is contracting rather than growing but Andrea Kirkby found some
interesting regional variations and long-term this market is still a good bet. Meanwhile Dani
Simpson reports that residential agents are optimistic and pessimistic in almost equal doses.
There is no doubt it’s tough out there.
Talking to various agents I have found a significant interest in auctioneering and David
Sandeman’s overview of this special market includes figures that track its recent strong
development. Next month he will advise on the best ways of joining the fray.
