Kids over 90 pounds can wear adult vests. If
they weigh less, choose from infant, child and
youth sizes (8–30, 30–50 and 50–90 lbs). Infant
and child jackets have leg straps and flotation
collars, while youth sizes offer older kids a per-
formance fit.

The easiest sprayskirts for kids to get on
and off their boats are those made of nylon
or waterproof/breathable fabric—check out
NRS’ Basic Nylon ($45 US, nrsweb.com) and
Snapdragon’s Glacier Breeze (small fits waists
20-30”, snapdragondesign.com). Neoprene
decks create a tighter seal for more aggres-
sive boating. Level Six’s Easy Peasy and Im-
mersion Research’s Shockwave ($105 US, im-
mersionresearch.com) have an extra pull strap
across the lap that makes easy releases within
reach of every kid. Finally, for an all-neoprene
skirt that fits the petite cockpits of the smallest
boats, look to NRS’ Youth Drylander (two tun-
nel sizes fit waists 20-28”, $80 US). Tip: Glue a
length of hose or tubing in the cockpit channel
to make a skirt release more easily.
