Seminars draw
big audiences
A highlight of Railtex 2009 was the introduction
for the first time of free-access drop-in seminars
in the exhibition hall. These ran throughout all
three days of the show, with attendance levels
confirming their popularity.
Event organisers Mack Brooks Exhibitions
staged the Railtex Technical Seminars, featuring
papers by exhibitors on a wide range of
topics. Incorporated within this programme
were keynote presentations each day by high-
profile speakers invited and hosted by the
Railnews railway staff newspaper. They included
Colin Walton, Chairman and Chief Country
Many show visitors – and some exhibitors – learnt more about
technological developments in the industry by attending the Rail
Engineer Seminars
In the adjoining Earls Court Conference Centre
Railway Gazette International organised a
successful two-day conference ‘Growth and
the Capacity Challenge – an International
Perspective’. The show also served as a venue
for Meet the Buyer sessions arranged by the
Railway industry Association and UK Trade &
Investment. This brought together UK suppliers
and buyers of railway products and services
from 17 countries.
Pete Waterman’s high profile in the music and TV world ensured
a large audience for his impassioned plea for an employer-led
national railway skills academy to meet the urgent need for a
fully trained and skilled workforce for the industry
