FIFTY suspected pirate attacks have been thwarted
with the help of a Royal Navy-led European task
group off Somalia in its fi rst two months.
The head of EU Naval Force Somalia says the concerted effort to
guillotine pirate activity in the Gulf of Aden and Indian Ocean has
“made a difference”.
But Rear Admiral Philip Jones warns that the pirate threat is far
from over – a fact underlined by the seizure of the German tanker
Longchamp at the end of January.
Longchamp was the latest victim of an ‘industry’ which made an
