hirty thousand spectators at next month’s 2015 QIPCO Guineas Festival are being invited to ‘Discover Newmarket’.


The festival at Newmarket Racecourses is a unique sporting occasion held on Saturday, 2nd May and Sunday, 3rd May, featuring the first two Classic races of the British horse racing year – the QIPCO 1000 and 2000 Guineas. Racing fans travel from far and wide to soak up the electric atmosphere just ahead of the May Day Bank Holiday as Europe’s finest racehorses descend on Newmarket’s Rowley Mile Racecourse. A host of top thoroughbreds will compete, with their owners, trainers and jockeys seeking glory and a share of a total prize-money pot of some £1.4 million.

will be able to enjoy exhibitions showing all the many attractions around Newmarket – from The National Stud, Newmarket gallops, Jockey Club Rooms, Tattersalls, the National Horseracing Museum through to the Animal Health Trust.


As for the Classic races, the QIPCO 2000 Guineas, which was first held in 1809, is one of the most important horse races in the world. This year is the 207th running.


Who will emerge as this year’s champion on Saturday, 2nd May and follow in the hoof prints of greats like Frankel, Nashwan and Nijinsky? Will it be Gleneagles, Ivawood, Belardo or the first ever American challenger Hootenanny? Of course, there are more than a few other colts whose connections will fancy their chances of emerging triumphant from the year’s first Classic. Found, High Celebrity, Together Forever and Tiggy Wiggy are currently high in the ante-post betting for the 202nd running of the QIPCO 1000 Guineas, for which entries closed in early March as did those for the 2000 Guineas.


The stunning racing is not the only reason why The Rowley Mile feels highly


charged during the QIPCO Guineas Festival; there will be plenty of activities to keep the children entertained too. A host of fun is being laid on, including a Guineas carnival funfair and music from roaming jazz trios.
