GLASGOW’S ‘BRAW’ EVENT

Murray Webster, right, was amongst a team of four who attended from Webster Power Products of Wishaw. “We thoroughly enjoyed it, and it reminded us of the former HAE Scottish region meetings that Jimmy Martin of Martin Plant used to organise years ago. It was good to meet other hirers and suppliers, and we looked at new products from HSC, SDMO and Obart. The JCB tracked dumper displayed outside was also interesting. I am really glad the Executive Hire team organised the event, and everyone should make the effort to attend their regional Road Show. You can always make excuses and think you are too busy, but hirers need an event like this that they can go to, to meet other independents and generally benefit from.”

Altrad Belle was one of the suppliers that Allan Toal, centre, and Hugh Brown, right, of Rutherglen- based Versatile Plant caught up with. “We discussed adding more Belle mixers, and we also looked at Shindaiwa’s welding equipment and generators from MHM. In fact, we have made appointments for several of the companies we met to visit us and talk further, so business will definitely be done as a result of attending the Road Show. It was an excellent event, enabling us to meet up with other Scottish hirers, and we are looking forward to visiting the Executive Hire Show in Coventry once again.”

“There is a good Scots word that sums up the event: ‘braw’. It was great,” said John Cummings of HSS, right, with his colleague Gordon Small. “As soon as we saw the Road Show advertisements in the September issue of EHN, we knew we had to be here. It allows you to have an industry catch-up and to discuss current trends. Iain Anderson’s talk on plant theft was really excellent, and overall it was a great opportunity for networking, seeing some familiar faces, and for winding up other hirers!”

“It was a great event, excellently organised and really informative,” said Hayley Shevill of Arvill Plant. “I was very interested in the new super-silent generators from Shindaiwa, and we have arranged for one to be demonstrated at our depot in Airdrie. I also got more information from MHM on its generator re-hire initiative, and discussed industry issues and trends with other hirers. The Road Show was a great idea and a big success, and I hope it encourages other Scottish hirers to attend the main Executive Hire Show in February.”

“We got a great deal on a plate compactor from Belle,” said Innes (left) and Jim Messer of Tool & Plant Services in Edinburgh. “We also bought some dust suppression water bottles from HSC and took advantage of their offer on a Master heater in readiness for the winter season. The plant theft talk and presentations from suppliers were very interesting, with a lot of good-natured banter and interaction with the audience, and we really enjoyed the evening.”

“Although our company specialises in portable toilet hire, I still got a lot out of attending the Road Show,” said David Cassels, pictured left, from Envirosan in Carluke. “I took advantage of a deal from Obart on some of its pumps. We fit them to our service vehicles as a secondary system for pumping water quickly. I met up with a lot of hire colleagues, some of whom I have known for more than 25 years, and I made sure I got as much as I could out of the event, which was well organised and very informative.”
