Latest products TCP increases hydrogen fuel range

Taylor Construction Plant (TCP) continues to develop its Ecolite lighting products that are powered by hydrogen fuel cells from BOC. The latest addition is the WH2 model, which has been introduced to meet demand for a machine that can also provide power to run electric hand tools.

TCP says the unit

can produce enough 110V power from its battery, via an inverter, to drive equipment for periods of up to ten minutes for a

maximum of four times during a typical night shift. The WH2 uses compact hydrogen fuel cells and, like other models in the Ecolite line-up. It creates energy without

emissions and with virtually silent operation, with the only by-product being water vapour.

Pramac’s LSW9 trailer-mounted lighting tower is designed for quiet operation, with a super-silent canopy and a quoted noise level rating of 58dB (A) at 7m. The machine has four 1000W metal halide lamps and a 9m hydraulic mast that can be rotated through 340°. The LSW9 incorporates a 9kVA generator and gives up to 60 hours of continuous running time on a tankful of fuel. An hour meter is provided on the control panel and Pramac says that it has good stocks of the machine available.

Generac hybrids in demand

As mentioned in the introductory article to our Heating & Lighting Market Report, Generac is experiencing increasing demand for its environmentally friendly lighting towers. It says that Costain is now specifying that hybrid machines should now be used at all its sites in order to reduce noise and carbon emissions.

Machines that the

contractor is using include the VT-Hybrid, which has a combined battery and diesel system with an automatic charging capability, meaning that the unit typically runs for 90% of the time on battery power only. The 5kVA generator is claimed to consume only 0.5 litres of fuel per hour when in use, typically enabling up to 700 hours of operation per tankful of diesel. The machine has a 9m hydraulic mast that rotates through 360°.

Lighting up Chicago

New from Chicago Pneumatic is the CPLB lighting tower, which has four LED lamps that give a quoted luminosity of up to 200 lux. Running costs are also claimed to be reduced by up to 70% compared against metal halide lights through greater energy efficiency and decreased fuel usage. An 8m hydraulic mast is incorporated. The manufacturer says that further

reductions in operating costs can be achieved as the machine offers extended servicing intervals, with maintenance being required every 500 hours.
