MARKET REPORT LIFTING & SHIFTING

Latest products Efficiency from Probst

Probst offers a wide range of materials handling equipment, including vacuum systems and mechanical and hydraulic grabs, all of which are designed for the lifting of concrete products. The company says that these can help site managers meet their Health & Safety obligations, as well as speeding up work and reducing the ‘double handling’ of materials. The manufacturer points out that its products can also help to reduce

repetitive lifting operations, which are believed by many to cause more injuries and health issues over the long term than one-off lifting tasks.

Established in America in 1964, and recently acquired by the Southwire LLC group, Sumner Manufacturing says it has steadily extended its range of manual lifting solutions in response to hire industry demands. Popular products include the Roust-A-Bout, a one-person lift, and the 2000 and 2100 series. The 2200 series Lil’Hoister lift, 2300 series plasterboard lift and the 2400 series range are designed to offer the same rugged construction of the 2100 series in a more compact configuration. More recently, Sumner has entered the portable

aluminium gantry market, currently offering three models with capacities of 750kg, 2 tonnes and 5 tonnes, with a 3-tonne version in development. Also, in the last two years, the manufacturer has launched lifts aimed at more specialist applications. It says that the 2500 series counterweight lift has been designed specifically to address safety issues that can be associated with this type of product, and the 2600 series, which has a 500kg capacity, has been developed for very heavy lifting tasks.

31 Avant goes electric

Avant has developed the e-series of compact battery- powered loaders in the same size class as its 500 Series models, to offer zero emissions, low noise and minimal running costs. They can also be used indoors. The e5 model is available now, and a heavier duty

machine, the e6, is set to be launched in the summer. Both have the same quick-attach system and multi-connector for the attachment hydraulics as used on the conventional models, to enable them to accept the wide range of implements offered. The loader has an integral battery charger and can be operated while charging. MD Raimo Ala-Korpi said the e5 can be used for

approximately an hour of heavy-duty applications in demolition and construction, and for up to five hours for lighter activities, such as driving and lifting. A battery pack exchange system will be available in the serial production loaders to enable quick battery changes for a full day’s operation, even with heavy-duty usage.
