At this point, the person who has been nominated to identify the after death steps forward. Once the formalities are complete, the funeral home collects the body. The person’s ashes are available for collection around 5 working days after the death. Alternatively one’s ashes can be couriered home. Pegasos can arrange for this.
In the weeks following a VAD, one’s family or other nominated person receive two letters by mail.
The first is the death certificate which Pegasos will send by mail. The second letter is from the Canton of Basel Land. This letter is called an ‘order to dismiss’ and confirms that no crime was committed. This second letter is a formality only and has no other purpose.
All Swiss VAD services charge similar fees. This can be explained because the professionals who staff the services must charge the same professional fees as if they were working in a mainstream medical field.
At Pegasos, a VAD costs ~ €10,000. This amount is payable in two installments. The first installment is payable online at the time the VAD application is made.
