Tempering is a thermal process of heating a glass close to melting point then cooling it rapidly. This causes the outer surface of the glass to cool and shrink faster than the inside of the glass wall, creating a tight skin. This closes the many hairline fractures that naturally occur in regular annealed glass and make a vastly stronger product.
HOW STRONG IS TEMPERED GLASSWARE?
Tempered glass is 5 times stronger. This is known as Mechanical Shock Resistance, making a cost effective choice.
ARE ALL GLASSES FULLY TEMPERED?
All glassware with a “T” placed on it are fully tempered from rin to foot both inside and out. Not all manufacturers temper to the same high standards.
IS TEMPERED GLASSWARE MORE RESISTANT TO TEMPERATURE CHANGES? Fully Tempered items are resistant to 135C temperature changes. This is tested by taking an item of glass from the oven at 135C and then plunging it into cold water. The glassware will not shatter or break.
WHAT DOES SHEER RIM MEAN?
produced to give optimal contact with the mouth, enabling a superior drinking experience.
