Narrator: The UB Curriculum is an innovative, student-centered approach to general education. It's a purposeful program with a beginning and an end, where students link coursework in a meaningful way while developing skills essential to career success. Every student begins with a UB Seminar.

Student 1: “There's so many different courses you can take: Film, courses in art, and sociology, psychology … the list went on and on and on.”

Student 2: “My UB seminar was called ‘Caribbean American Experience.’”

Student 3: “I took a course called ‘How the Internet Works.’”

Narrator: Taught by a distinguished faculty member, UB Seminars introduce students to the expectations of a research one university.

Faculty Member: “We're going to be in a small setting, we're going to get to know each other. I'm going to get to give them some one-on-one instruction in history, in doing historical research.”

Student 1: “I felt that the faculty, especially for my Seminar course, was very hands-on. He understood that we were freshmen and so he said, ‘Come to office hours, don't be afraid. I'm here to really help you in this first semester.”

Narrator: The UB Curriculum contains Pathways, which allow students to connect courses by their interests or line of inquiry. Students can choose things that might complement their major or they can go in a completely different direction. Pathways allow students to build bridges between disciplines and ideas. It really enables students to customize their education.

Student 3: “So you take your major courses, you take your Seminar, and you take your Pathways and the Pathways really are for you to kind of pursue where your interests are.”

Student 2: “In my environmental class that I took as my Pathway actually helped me understand the fact that I might want to do a minor in environmental sciences. The Pathways helped me actually shape a different future that I wouldn't have thought before coming to UB.”

Narrator: The culmination of the UB Curriculum program is the UB Capstone. It's an opportunity for students to reflect holistically on their learning experiences, bringing it all together with purpose.

Student 4: “It made me realize how far I've come. Not just as a student, but as a person because I'm figuring out what these courses gave me. It's not just about what I learned in them, it's more about the way I see things now. How did that change?”

Student 1: “I feel that these components have helped me look at my career in such a different light. It's allowed me like a 360° view of my professional path.
