Spotlight: Syria A catastrophe of epic proportions
The current crisis in Syria is the largest humanitarian emergency of our era. In its fifth year of brutal and bitter war, the nation is in ruins.
Millions of internally displaced people are trapped within its borders, struggling to survive in dire conditions. Millions more refugees have overwhelmed neighbouring countries and their numbers continue to increase daily.
UNHCR is coordinating a massive refugee response throughout the region. We are leading efforts to protect and provide shelter for those displaced throughout Syria, and working across borders to provide critical aid under extremely dangerous circumstances.
Inside Syria, you help support 30 community centres with counselling, education, livelihood and vocational training and primary and psychosocial health care. Each community centre assists 1,000 people every month with these vital benefits.
Last year alone, you made it possible to reach 3.2 million Syrians with items like food, clothing and blankets, 61,064 people with shelter and another 797,432 people with access to health care.
For families suffering immense losses, your support provides life-saving care and a sense of hope.
