ROUTES EUROPE Hannover “

Routes Europe in Hannover is a

marvellous opportunity to show off our economic and scientific strengths, as well as the charm of the city, to an international audience. I am certain that Routes Europe will bring important additional growth, both to the airport and the trade fair and congress venue of Hannover. The city is an open-minded, international venue in the heart of Europe. People from 178 different countries call Hannover their home. I hope all our visitors will discover Hannover’s highlights, including the Eilenriede, one of Europe’s largest urban forests, and the Herrenhausen Gardens. Future issues including sustainable mobility, digitalisation and climate protection are being actively tackled by the city’s administration – meaning Hannover was awarded the title of “the most sustainable metropolis in Germany” in 2018. To kick off the event, I would like to welcome delegates to the New Town Hall, which is my office and also the most significant building historically in Hannover, for the welcome reception. I am looking forward to many interesting and international encounters. Welcome to Hannover!

Q&A

Dr Raoul Hille, CEO, Hannover Airport, shares his plans for Routes Europe

Why did Hannover decide to host Routes Europe? Routes Europe is the largest European network meeting and will take place in Germany for the first time. As an international events city, Hannover offers the best conditions as the first German host of the event, from which the city will also benefit significantly. By hosting Routes Europe, more than 1,200 route development decision makers will get to know Lower Saxony and Hannover as both an industrial location and a tourist destination. They will also get to experience first-hand the locations’ outstanding infrastructure and resulting potential. Our 10-month bid to win the right to host the event was actively supported by the state of Lower Saxony and the City of Hannover. Both will work hard to ensure its success.

What are the opportunities in Hannover Airport and the Hannover region? The airport is hoping to sway upcoming decisions on new routes, new airline partners and destinations. With its 24-hour operations and the parallel runway system allowing for intercontinental flights, Hannover Airport is the third-largest commercial airport in Germany in terms of capacity behind Frankfurt and Munich. The combination of efficient traffic management with room for more, decades of experience as an events airport and its appeal as a weekend getaway gives the airport a unique profile in the airport landscape.
