Routes Americas 2019 took place in Québec City, Canada, from February 12-14


Canada marks its fi rst-ever Routes Americas


The fi rst Routes Americas to be held in Canada attracted more than 800 delegates in February. Hosted by Québec City Jean


Lesage International Airport and Québec City Tourism, delegates of airports, airlines and tourist associations from 50 countries gathered for the event at the Québec City Convention Centre in the French-Canadian city. Once there, they attended more than 2,700 meetings and over 300 city pair meetings over a two-and- a-half day period.


Evening events in the snowy city included the fi rst night’s welcome


party, held at the convention centre, while the networking evening and the Routes Americas 2019 Marketing Awards took place in the 19th-century Québec City Armoury. Meanwhile, the conference – which was also held at the event – saw more than 30 top-level speakers from the world of aviation route development, including Canada Jetlines CEO Javier Suarez, Canada minister of tourism, offi cial languages and la Francophonie Mélanie Joly, VINCI Airports CCO Alvaro Leite and Québec Port Authority cruise market director Nancy Houley. Speaking at the launch of the event, Gaëtan Gagné, president and


CEO of Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport, said: “This annual forum is one of the largest and most prestigious in the air transport industry. Hosting this event in Québec City positions YQB as a world-class airport capable of rivalling the best in the industry.” Routes brand director Steven Small added: “Québec City is an ideal location for the fi rst Canadian Routes Americas, and we fi rmly believe the highly qualifi ed YQB team will do a fantastic job of showing it off to the thousand delegates who are preparing to discover the city.”
