uito International Airport is the main gateway to Ecuador. It opened in 2013 as the only greenfield airport in Latin

America and the Caribbean. The airport has boosted connectivity for Quito and the country while offering more efficient operations for airlines and enhanced services for passengers. It serves about five million passengers annually following a significant connectivity improvements. Corporación Quiport’s strategic route development plan has led to five new airlines, nine additional non-stop routes and 17 new flights and frequencies on existing routes. Cargo handling is another of the airport’s competitive advantages as it is the main shipping point of Ecuador´s flowers. About 740,000 tons of cargo have passed through Quito Airport since opening. Air cargo handling and infrastructure conditions make cargo operations more efficient today, with the arrival of large aircraft including Boeing 747-800, Boeing 747-400 and Boeing 777-200 aircraft.

In addition, the passenger terminal offers comfort and all the necessary services, meaning passengers can work, rest and play in a pleasant atmosphere. The airport continues to improve. Next year Quiport

will reconfigure the departures hall to optimise the space and aid passenger flow. In the meantime, the International VIP room is being expanded while the impact of new technological systems designed to ease the airport’s efficient operation is being analysed. The airport has a 35-year masterplan to allow sustainable growth according to traffic increases and operational demands.
