Okinawa ROUTES ASIA

ROUTES ASIA 2017 IS BEING HELD AT THE OKINAWA CONVENTION CENTRE IN OKINAWA, JAPAN, MARCH 19-21

FUTURE

Okinawa, Japan, will host Routes Asia in 2017

Routes Asia 2017 to make Japanese debut

Okinawa’s winning of the contract to host Routes Asia 2017 means the event will take place in Japan for the first time. The prefecture is the southernmost in the country and consists of 160 islands, although only 49 of them are inhabited. With a subtropical climate, the islands enjoy comparatively moderate temperatures in the summer and mild winters, making it one of the most popular holiday destinations in Japan. In the 10 months until November 2016, a total of 7.22 million domestic passengers and 1.25 million tourists flew into the country and the destination boasts an 80% repeat business rate among domestic travellers. Air travellers access the island

via Naha Airport, which boasts 33 domestic routes to mainland Japan and 11 international air

routes, connecting Okinawa to Hong Kong, Taipei, Taichung, Kaohsiung, Seoul, Busan, Shanghai, Beijing, Tianjin, Nanjing, Hangzhou and Bangkok.

The event is being hosted by the Okinawa Convention & Visitors Bureau (OCVB), which has a remit to promote tourism, resorts and conventions in Okinawa. It does this by providing a range of support to airlines, travel

agencies and visitors to Okinawa prefecture. More than 900 delegates are

expected to attend the event, held at the Okinawa Convention Centre and which is located in the seaside area of Ginowan city on the west coast of central Okinawa island. Among those attending the event,

to be held on March 19-21, will be representatives from more than 100 airlines, 200 airports and 30 tourism authorities. More than 2,000 face-to-face meetings will be held at the event while at least 20 high-level speakers will be giving speeches and taking part in debates. £
