3 Landscape and Visual Studies and Baseline Considerations

18 To aid the impact assessment, photomontages from representative viewpoint locations were produced. The key locations in close proximity to the converter station (and the viewpoints for which photomontages have been produced are illustrated in Figure 3.1 ’Viewpoint Locations and Photomontages’).

19 The topography in the surrounding area of the proposed site is gently undulating which, in combination with existing mature vegetation (especially the woods and mature hedgerows) will help the proposed building and site to be screened from some of the surrounding receptors. Where the development will be visible, views will be mostly limited to the upper parts of the proposed buildings e.g. ridge lines, roof and top sections of the supporting walls.

20 Most of the roads and public footpaths in the surrounding area are also lined with mature hedgerows. As a result, sweeping views of the landscape from vantage locations are limited and where available provide views of established woods, mature hedgerows and open spaces interspersed with farm houses and residential areas.
