8 ST REGIS OSAKA

Osaka, Japan Awarded five red pavilions, the Michelin Guide’s top honour for hotels, two years on the trot, you would be mad not to stay here. My room was a Grand Deluxe on the 23rd floor, which was as big as any New York apartment, with rich gold textures, plush furnishings and luxurious bedding. The huge windows frame the best views Osaka has to offer, the enormous bath and shower cubicle could fit a football team and make sure you use the hotel’s famous butler service. With a ‘butler box’ (think a cupboard with a door either side) near the front door, you hardly lay eyes on your butler. You pop things in the box and they magically appear the next morning cleaned, pressed, polished and folded. Every home should have one!

9 DORMY HOUSE

The Cotswolds, UK Dormy House is a stylish 17th-century farmhouse hotel located at the end of a long lane high up in the Cotswold Hills. While the approach feels like the beginning of an Agatha Christie whodunit, the interior has been cleverly designed to lead you seamlessly through a rustic wood-panelled reception into a very modern space with well-being and comfort at its heart. Courtyard suites for families are spacious and have a hint of Scandi-chic – as a nod to the Danish family owners – while the intimate rooms for £280 are ideal for couples’ romantic weekends. A multi-million-pound refurbishment has kitted this luxury site with impressive spa facilities and an excellent modern business meeting area in The Studio.

10 MALMAISON

Liverpool, UK The Malmaison’s standout and most impressive feature is its desirable location. The hotel stands opposite the Prince’s Dock on the Mersey, enabling you to explore the vibrant city of Liverpool on foot. With views from your room overlooking the Liver Building and the Liverpool waterfront, it is a treat to stay at the Malmaison. The rooms are big and decorated immaculately. The bathrooms are fitted with a large bath and walk-in shower that allow you to either unwind or get yourself ready to enjoy the bars and restaurants within the hotel or close by. On arrival you get an instant appreciation of the luxurious side to the hotel. The open fire, plush seating areas and friendly staff welcome you in true Malmaison style.
