Academic Registry

Service providing a broad range of administrative services including student administration, support for department and programmes, achievement and assessment.

Alumni Association

Association for graduates that aims to build lifelong and mutually beneficial relationships with Middlesex graduates.

Assessment Team

Team in Academic Registry responsible for conducting examinations, organising events such as graduation and providing administrative support for the implementation of regulations.

Counselling and Mental Health

Team in LSS that provides confidential support to students with personal, emotional difficulties and mental health issues, through one-to-one sessions and group workshops.

Deferral

A deferral of assessment is the postponement of the date you are due to submit an assessment or sit an examination until the next opportunity and without penalty.

Disability and Dyslexia Support (DDS)

The team in LSS that provides advice, needs assessment and practical support to students who have a disability, dyslexia, dyspraxia or other learning difficulty.

Employability Service

Service that helps students plan a route into employment.

Extenuating Circumstances

There may be difficult circumstances in a student’s life that affects their ability to meet an assessment deadline or affect their performance in an assessment.

International Student Advice Team (ISAT)

Team within LSS providing information and advice on visa and immigration policies and procedures to international students wishing to continue their study at the University. Also provides workshops on the Tier 4 application process.

IT Helpdesk

A single point of contact for help with computers, including software applications and Wi-Fi access.

Learning Enhancement Team (LET)

The Learning Enhancement Team (LET) works in conjunction with the Schools to provide a school specific service and to help embed student learning and study skills within degree programmes. They also offer drop-in sessions at the StudyHub and one-to-one tutorials and workshops. Additional support is also available with mathematics, numeracy and statistics (MSN).

Library and Student Support (LSS)

Library and Student Support provides a wide range of support services to students including Library and IT Support, UniHelp, Student Money and Welfare Advice, International Student Support, Counselling and Mental Health, Disability and Dyslexia Services, Learning Enhancement Team.

Middlesex Student’s Union (MDXSU)

Student body which represents students. The student union provides access to opportunities that enable students to meet new people, develop their skills, discover new talents and boost employability.

Museum of Domestic Design and Architecture (MoDA)

MoDA is part of Middlesex University and is based at Beaufort Park, Colindale – close to the Hendon Campus. Its collections include wallpaper, textiles, designs, books, magazines and ephemera from the late 19th century to the late 20th century. Collections are available online, on tour and on request.

myUniHub

Personalised portal for students in UniHub which provides access to enrolment, learning materials and library resources, email, programme and module information, timetables and where they can join communities and make payments all through a single sign-on.

North London Regional Access Centre (NLRAC)

The North London Regional Access Centre at Middlesex University offers needs assessments, Assistive Technology training, advice and support for disabled students in higher education. The services of the centre are available to any disabled students applying for or attending a UK-based institution.

Progression and Support Team

Helps all students progress to their next year and successfully complete their studies. The team work with programme leaders and academic staff to support all students.

Student Attendance Monitoring (SAM)

The Student Attendance Monitoring staff work closely with the Progression and Support Team in order to identify students who are failing to engage with their programme and offers support where necessary. Accurate attendance data is especially crucial for Tier 4 sponsored students to comply with the conditions of the University’s sponsorship licence.

Student Financial Support Services

Overseeing student loans, Student Support Fund and Scholarships and Bursaries.

Student Learning Assistant (SLA)

Student Learning Assistants are experienced students who have been identified by their academic tutors as being highly motivated and capable learners who know the typical academic issues new students face in their studies. They work in lectures, seminars, workshops and small group sessions to assist students in their learning. Typical support provided by SLAs includes clarification of coursework and help with study and revision strategies.

Student Records Team

The team in Academic Registry that manages the student and curriculum database.

Student Visa Compliance Team (SVCT)

SVCT, based in Academic Registry, works closely with Admissions and with the International Student Advice Team to support Tier 4 sponsored students in remaining compliant with the conditions of their sponsorship. The team are responsible for the issuing of Confirmations of Acceptance of Studies (CASs) for new students and those needing to extend their visas; they also coordinate visa checking activities and run regular census checks for sponsored students.

Student Welfare Advice Team (SWAT)

Team in LSS that provides advice and guidance to students seeking support with issues relating to student finance and budgeting, legal rights and personal welfare and wellbeing to enable them to make a smooth transition into higher education and encourage academic progress and student retention.

StudyHub

This is an area on the First Floor of the Sheppard Library where students can receive one-to-one support with their studies. The following services are based within StudyHub:

Tool that allows students to review work and check for plagiarism.

UniHelp

UniHelp is the first point of contact for general student enquiries and staff are available Monday to Friday at the UniHelp Desk in the Sheppard Library. The service is also available via phone, online and Chat seven days per week.

Advisors will resolve the query or refer students to an appropriate specialist for an appointment or workshop.

UniHub

The student website, providing access to a range of information on Schools, Services and facilities across the University and is the place to login to myUniHub.
