When a student needs help accessing library resources
What should you be aware of?
Throughout the students’ programme they will need to use the Library in different ways, for example, silent study and bookable group study areas, e-books and journals. There are a wide range of services available within the Sheppard Library and online. However, students may not be aware of how to access the variety of library resources. Students may have missed their library induction, in-class library teaching, or generally find it difficult to locate materials within the Library.
What should you do?
If a student requires access to the Sheppard Library:
— during term time, the Sheppard Library is open 24/7. (Please see http://unihub.mdx.ac.uk/study/library/library-services/library-opening-hours)
— students require their ID card for access to the Library and for borrowing items including books and laptops. If a student has lost their ID card please refer them to Security.
— there are a range of study spaces including silent study, group study and bookable group study. If a student wants to book a group study space please refer the student to the following link:

If a student requires subject specific advice, please refer them to their Subject Liaison Librarian.
The Subject Liaison Librarians work closely with academic staff in their particular school to ensure the Library has the resources required for current programmes and to teach the students how to use them. The Subject Liaison Librarians provide support through One-to-One appointments, drop-in sessions (Ask A Librarian Helpdesk, First Floor, StudyHub) and training sessions.

If a student requires assistance with finding appropriate resources for assignments, literature searching, referencing, inter-library loans, reading lists, e-books and journals please refer the student to their Subject Liaison Librarian. Practical help in the Sheppard Library is available through the Library and Learning Spaces Team.
The team can be contacted on 07785 447466, Monday to Friday 9am to 7pm and at weekends 11am to 6pm during Term Time.
There are staff located at the Library Help Points on most floors that can assist with:
— printing
— binding
— locating items online and face-to-face
— issues arising from noise and ventilation
— library account and charges queries
