When a student has a query related to faith, belief or religion

What should you be aware of?

Middlesex University, which attracts students and staff from different parts of the world, celebrates its diversity and inclusivity. This is why the University incorporates the type of facilities on campus which cater for spiritual needs and beliefs. Students may come to you with a variety of questions about faith, beliefs and religion. In line with University policy, Middlesex University aims to create an environment where the cultural, religious and non-religious beliefs of all its students are respected.

What should you do?

If a student enquires about Prayer Facilities/Places of Worship:

There are two single sex Prayer Rooms located on campus (Please see campus map on p75.

If a student enquires about student led societies:

There are many student societies such as the campus Islamic societies, and the Christian Union that students can join.

If a student enquires about religious observance during the academic year which may affect their studies:

Change of Timetable:

During their first two weeks students can change their timetable via myUniHub, change your timetable. After this period, module leaders need to contact Student Records at studentrecords@mdx.ac.uk (Staff Use only).

If a student enquires about the removal of their photo on certain University systems for religious reasons, please contact Security, email Jamie Steed on J.Steed@mdx.ac.uk

Exams:

If a student is unable to take examination/s on a particular day/s during the published examination periods for reasons of religious observance they should contact the Exams Office. For this to be taken into consideration, please ask student to complete the Religious Observance form and submit via UniHelp. The deadline for the submission of this form is before the publication of the final exam timetable.
