This unit focuses on behavioural addictions that have developed as a result of technological developments and current lifestyles. It describes the criteria that define addiction in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders and discusses the difference between substance abuse and behavioural addictions. It also examines two specific behavioural addictions: eating disorders and compulsive buying.
