Setting goals for the coming year…

The main objectives of my mission as President of the International Federation of Hospital Engineering (IFHE) in the period 2014-2016, are to consolidate the Latin American Regional Group through active and ongoing communication, setting goals for technical exchange and evaluation of the results of production in the field of design, construction and operation of our local health systems. I welcome the National Associations of

Chile, Costa Rica and Cuba for their accreditation as new ‘A’ Latin American members of IFHE and for their contribution to strengthen the Regional Group. I will also encourage contact between the

different members of IFHE, in the certainty that this interchange will enhance the sharing of experiences both from the practical field and the scientific and technical research. Thus younger countries, or those with lower means, will have a guide and a vision to lead technological change, and the more developed countries will have a more accurate view of the global reality. During my time as President, I also hope to expand the current IFHE scope to new

Liliana Font is founder partner of AFS ARQUITECTOS S.C., architectural office which has, for the past 40 years, specialised in hospital planning. Its headquarters are in Buenos Aires city. Lilian has been in charge of many

healthcare related projects, including master planning, design and construction supervision of new facilities, expansions or upgrading of existing buildings, and technical consulting services for private or state-administered healthcare institutions in Argentina as well as several Latin American countries. She is also a founder member and past

president of Asociación Argentina de Arquitectura e Ingeniería Hospitalaria (AADAIH) and was president of the AADAIH Latin American Congresses in Buenos Aires in 1993, 1998 and 2006.

countries, and to other societies and scientific institutions with similar objectives to our own, and generally to promote the specialty and performance globally. We must continue to enhance and/or

improve the tools available at IFHE to serve members through the publication of our activities, bibliographic editions, answering inquiries, surveys, and on-line access to its libraries or databases. It is vital to accentuate sustainability

issues and humanisation as premises of new projects in the light of new scenarios in the healthcare field. Indeed, these three topics were the themes of the 23rd Congress of IFHE in Buenos Aires, and judging by the convening power obtained, proved to be key issues of interest for countries at different latitudes, revealing a widely shared concern from the various disciplines involved. I finally greet the Associations that have

recently joined the Federation, and summon all members to jointly pursue our proposed objectives.

She has been an IFHE Executive

Committee Member from 1992-1998, 2000- 2002 and 2010-2014; an IFHE Council Member from 1988-2012; and was a member of the IFHE DIGEST Advisory Panel from 2009-2013. She was an invited Professor on ‘Health

Care Facilities’ in the post-graduate courses of Clinic Engineering Faculty, Favaloro University, Buenos Aires from 2003 to 2011. Professor on ‘Health Care Facilities’ in

AADAIH’s post-graduate courses, in association with UNSAM, UNLA and UNLAM Universities from 2006 to 2014. She was an invited lecturer at several

Latin American Congresses organised by National Associations, such as SMAES of Mexico in 1999, SUAIH of Uruguay in 2007 and 2009, AVAIMS of Venezuela in 2010, Fundación SER AMBIENTE of Colombia in

and 2008 Liliana was in charge of the Master Development Plan of the German Hospital of Buenos Aires (total 38,000 m2), which included recycling and expansions of its facilities. Her most recent completed Project – the Finochietto Sanatorium – opened in October 2013. It stands as the first eco- sustainable hospital in Argentina, with an area of 17,000 m2 equipped with the latest technology. Presently, Liliana’s office is developing a

20,000 m2 hospital in San Martín, on the outskirts of Buenos Aires, and the upgrade and expansion of existing Itoiz Sanatorium, in Avellaneda, both for UPCN (Unión Personal Civil de la Nación).
