Rapid purification of exosomes from blood samples

Cell Guidance Systems has launched a new product for the purification of exosomes from blood and other samples. The Exo-spin 96 exosome purification kit allows researchers to purify exosome samples in the standard 96-well plate format.

The Exo-spin 96 kit is based on

the increasingly popular size exclusion chromatography (SEC) method of exosome purification, which is now used by most exosome research laboratories. It is a development of Cell Guidance Systems’ Exo-spin range of SEC single columns, which have been enabling exosome research since 2014, providing a rapid, reliable and cost-effective way to purify exosomes without specialist equipment. Exo-spin 96 and Exo-spin mini columns have identical column dimensions and resin bed length, allowing scale up from small to large sample numbers using the same protocol, which takes less than an hour to complete and, in the standard 96- well format, is amenable to automation. Advanced manufacturing techniques and stringent quality control systems used in the production of Exo-spin 96 kits ensure sample-to-sample consistency. exo-spin-96.html

Whole respiratory pathogen multiplex testing controls

Global diagnostics company Randox Laboratories has unveiled a range of whole pathogen multiplex controls that cover multiple viral and bacterial pathogens that cause respiratory disease. Inclusive of SARS-CoV-2, influenza A and

B, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), the Qnostics Multiplex Respiratory Pathogen Controls (RTX) facilitate diagnosis of cold and influenza, and, importantly, the differentiation of these respiratory diseases from SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19. Using a control line that covers a range

of respiratory pathogens in this way will allow laboratories to streamline their

testing, consolidate QC, and ultimately save time, money and resource. The new RTX controls, which are whole pathogen for compatibility with the majority of commercial and in-house assays, are used to monitor the full testing process, from extraction to amplification and detection. They will support public health testing strategies during the incoming influenza season and are suitable for the test menus of most syndromic assays. disease-controls/respiratory-infection- testing

Rapid nucleocapsid protein antigen testing for the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus

The Fortress COVID-19 Antigen Test, available from Una Health, is a single- use in vitro immunochromatographic assay for the qualitative detection of nucleocapsid protein antigen from SARS-CoV-2 in nasopharyngeal swab specimens.

In the ongoing battle against COVID-19, accessible near-patient diagnostic testing is a powerful tool to help screening. As more and more people seek to return to the ‘new normal’, antibody and antigen tests will be invaluable to the success of helping schools and universities remain open, businesses returning to

New chapter in histopathology automation

Sakura Finetek Europe has launched its latest innovation, Tissue-Tek SmartConnect, which enables a fully automated continuous flow by connecting, processing and embedding in the histopathology laboratory. Tissue-Tek SmartConnect is an automated transfer system that creates a continuous flow between the SMART solutions Tissue-Tek Xpress x120 Rapid Tissue Processor and Tissue-Tek AutoTEC a120 Automated Embedding System. This new, innovative SMART solution enables a laboratory to optimise its

workflow and eliminate repetitive and unnecessary manual work. In the coming months, the first histopathology laboratory will be equipped with Tissue-Tek SmartConnect to show its value and support staff in the workplace. “This step is in line with our promise to empower pathology professionals to deliver accurate and fast diagnoses to optimise treatment success,” said Chris Koeman (President of Sakura Finetek Europe). “The patient drives this promise, because when it comes to diagnosing

cancer, there is no time to wait. We truly believe we can make more valuable differences for patients in the future, and that drives us to put all our effort into bringing more worthy innovations to the market.”

The Fortress Diagnostics Ag-Rapid

Test offers quicker results for more efficient and effective treatment of SARS-CoV-2. Antigens are generally detectable in upper respiratory specimens during the acute phase of infection. Rapid diagnosis of SARS- CoV-2 infection will help healthcare professionals to treat patients and control the disease more efficiently and effectively.
