1. Delta Dental State Open of Virginia made a $17,000 donation to The First Tee of Roanoke Valley. Pictured are: Jennifer Blackwood, The First Tee of Roanoke Valley; Ross Funderburke, Hidden Valley High School student; Callie Montgomery, Franklin County High School student and Chris Pyle, Delta Dental. Funderburke and Montgomery will be heading to Pebble Beach, Calif., in September to compete for the pro-junior title and represent The First Tee of Roanoke Valley at the Nature Valley First Tee Open.


2. Roanoke area children participated in a youth clinic at Ballyhack Golf Club with regional golfers Lanto Griffi n, Fielding Brewbaker and former Delta Dental State Open champion Jay Woodson. The golfers challenged each other to a friendly glass-breaking competition and spent time with more than 75 children visiting from the Boys and Girls Club, YMCA Magic Place and The First Tee of Roanoke Valley.


3. Lead Virginia’s Class of 2016 traveled to Washington, D.C., to explore the economic impact of the nation’s capital on Northern Virginia’s economy.


4. Hunter Bendall, Lead Virginia Class of 2016 and vice president of Virginia Business, at the Virginia Tech College of Engineering.


5. Noted Virginia artist P. Buckley Moss and Lead Virginia President and CEO Susan Horne at the Virginia Tech Moss Arts Center.


6. Lead Virginia 2016 class members Ed White, LeClairRyan; Jennie O’Holleran, Offi ce of the Governor; and Claudia Keenan, Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, at Mount Vernon.


7. John Thomas, Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service and chair of Lead Virginia’s program, with Terry Clower of the George Mason University Center for Regional Analysis.
