Rosie’s opens its third site
The fi rst Rosie’s location opened in New Kent County at Colonial Downs in April.
Rosie’s Gaming Emporium opened its third location on July 1 in Richmond. Rosie’s offers historic horse-racing games on devices that resemble slot machines. Customers bet on the outcome of races that have already occurred. The Virginia General Assembly passed legislation last year permit- ting the machines, a move credited with the revival of Thoroughbred racing at Colonial Downs in New Kent County.
Observers see acceptance of historic horse racing as an indi- cator of Virginia’s willingness to consider legalization of casino gambling. During this year’s ses- sion, the legislature commissioned a state study on the issue. Virginia Business looked at the potential impact of casinos in the commonwealth in its July issue.
