hampton roads: City of Virginia Beach YE Virginia Beach is now the biggest digital port in the Mid-Atlantic

irginia Beach attracts millions of visitors from around the world each year because of

its strategic location at the heart of the East Coast. T e world’s leading technology companies are eager to stake a claim here after announcements by Telefónica, Microsoft and Facebook to bring the world’s fastest transatlantic fi ber cables to Virginia Beach in 2017 and 2018. MAREA, owned by Microsoft, Facebook and Telefónica, will bring the fi rst ultra-high-speed data cable from Bilbao, Spain to Virginia Beach in the fourth quarter 2017. BRUSA, owned by Telefónica, will bring the second cable from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in the fi rst quarter of 2018. Additional cables are planned, as are major data center developments. Virginia Beach is plugged

in and ready to go with a world- class telecommunications system complete with existing data centers and development sites. In addition to being the newest cable-landing site on the East Coast, Virginia Beach boasts a robust broadband infrastructure that will support the next generation of telecommunication systems. A regional backbone will connect the area’s major government and education facilities and enable greatly expanded commercial and residential access to ultra-high-speed networks. Additionally, VABeachBio is attracting national attention to the bio corridor that is home to a number of regional partners – and we’re making space for the next wave of innovators. Already-established local bioscience innovators such as Eastern Virginia Medical School, a world leader in

diabetes research; LifeNet Health, a global leader in organ and tissue research; and Operation Smile, the international children’s medical charity, provide partnership opportunities with

other bio fi rms. Sanyal Biotechnology moved its corporate headquarters from Richmond to the VABeachBio Accelerator at Tidewater Community College.
