Around Kingswear BY MIKE TREVORROW The Kingswear

Award for 2020 The Kingswear Award, a silver tray, is awarded annually and is held for one year. The Award is given in recognition of a significant contribution made to the life of the Parish during the past year. The Award may be given to an individual or, if the situation merits, to a group. Although primarily intended to be given to a resident of Kingswear Parish, it may be presented to someone who lives elsewhere but works in the Parish if their contribution is judged to be exceptional.

Nominations should be sent, in writing or by email, to the Clerk at the address below, by the 1st April 2020 and will be considered by the Parish Council at its meeting on the 8th April.

a very active social programme giving both ladies and gents an opportunity to meet others plus the chance to perhaps become more active.

If you would like to come along and try bowls please book in by calling Graham Sowerby on 07971 882125 or email him at graham. sowerby@btinternet.com

Ever Tried Bowls? Graham Sowerby has asked that I invite Kingswear folk to join in the activity, so here goes:

• Bowls Taster sessions are being held at Dartmouth Bowling Club on Victoria Road Dartmouth during April and May and are for ladies and gents and are aimed at encouraging people to come along and try bowls. It’s free of charge with all equipment provided. Bowls is a very social sport and we have

Quite a few Kingsweardoes do now cross the heaving briny on a regular basis to join in the wonderful groups set-up by our local organisation. The name is under serious consideration because ‘The University of the Third Age’ is rather off-putting for some. It sounds like you need to be a graduate of some sort to join. This is absolutely not so, anyone can join. You may just want to go along with a friendly group to have a pub lunch – fine – or find out a bit more about classical times, or what paintings are all about – fine. Would you like to brush-up your rusty French? Would you like to play bridge or Mah-jong? Perhaps a spot of wine-tasting? How about architecture?

In all, I think there are about 37 different groups to choose from, so if you haven’t joined in, you are seriously missing out. This will cost you the mighty sum of £10 for a year’s membership, so what are you waiting for? Come along. You will be very welcome. To join up just contact Suzie_ dodsworth@hotmail.com Please note that there is an underscore between Suzie and Dodsworth, but the underlining hides this. If you don’t use email Suzie’s number is 01803 770134

Hope to see you at one of the groups.
