FOR A WHOLE SCHOOL LICENCE

£380 Getting active in the classroom

5-a-day Fitness wants to get school children of all ages more active during the school day. Its resources aim to increase in-class physical activity levels and are used to help thousands of school children around the world exercise every day. Developed by PE teachers and exercise, dance and activity specialists, the easy-to-use and teacher-friendly resources are perfect for getting pupils up and active first thing in the morning, for a mid-lesson break or as a refocusing tool, or to use up any excess energy they may still have after lunch or break time. No teacher training or preparation is needed. Simply log in, select a video and let your class join in, have fun and get fit.

Vicky Bull, PE specialist teacher, St Fidelis Catholic Primary School, Erith, Kent (470 pupils): ‘5-a-day Fitness is used regularly in the classrooms. All the teachers access it when they need a break in-between lessons, to get the children moving for five minutes before they are due to start another lesson. We have found that it can be useful

when teachers need a few minutes in order to change a lesson plan or set something up. Some use the Time-2- Chill element of 5-a-day to help children regain calm and focus when coming in from lunchtime. We also use it as a whole-school resource on rainy mornings; our

children can come into school from 8:30am but school doesn’t start until 8:55am. Usually, they play outside during this time, but in the case of wet play, we put 5-a-day on the big screen in our hall and have all ages watching and getting active together. The children love the simplicity

of the directions, but also enjoy the different difficulty levels of dances, as well as the varied themes. It is something that can be used with our children from nursery to Year 6, with different learning needs or languages; it is very clear for all. 5-a-day Fitness is funded through the sport premium

allocation at our school.’ l For more information, visit 5-a-day.tv
