achieve improved air quality and reduced emissions from engine idling, high levels of hygiene; clearly advertised pricing; the inclusion of healthier options such as frozen yogurt or fruit, and to promote safety for both ice cream sellers and residents. A counci l spokesman


said: “We hope to support ice cream sellers onto the scheme, for the benef i t of t h ems e l v e s , t h e ir customers, local residents and businesses. I would encourage everyone who is interested to take part in the engagement and let us know your thoughts on our plans.” The five sites identified for


the trial are; Camden High Street (Outside JD sports), Albert Terrace (Park side); Downshire Hill junction with East Heath Road; Russell Square junction with Woburn Place and Neal St reet pedestrian area (Outside Urban Outfitters).


One step closer to Church Street enhancement


Over a thousand new homes are one step closer in Church Street Westminster following a consultation asking the local community for their views. Under the plans Church


Street will see brand new health and wellbeing facilities


and green areas. The regeneration programme also offers support for local businesses and market traders who will benef i t from the arrival of many new punters, alongside an employment service for residents. Cllr Rachael Robathan


said: “We’ ve l i s tened and taken the advice of our res ident s in t hi s consultation. We will now draw up more detai led designs for the preferred par t ial redevelopment option, which residents will again have a chance to feedback on.” The next steps are to


further develop the designs for new homes on the three sites which sit alongside the historic Church Street market. As well as creating 1,167 new homes, the market will be rejuvenated with better access for shoppers and bet ter faci l i t ies for traders. At leas t 622 of the


homes – just over half – will be affordable, but the council’s ambi t ion is to go much further to create opportunities for people to stay in the neighbourhood. The exact numbers may change sl ight ly as the designs develop. The designs for all of the


sites will be discussed with the communi ty over the summer to make plans suit the needs of the people who live in the ward.


Dipper ditched due to Market Traders


When I was a youngster visiting London the warning to watch out for pick-pockets was given often and sternly – indeed there were warning notices liberally sprinkled around the capitals streets. Candidly for years I haven’t


give the ‘dippers’ a thought but clearly they’re still about at least on Portobello. Or were – until they were recently barred. It all centres on an incident


in April last when local Safer Neighbourhood Of ficers spot ted two individuals acting suspiciously outside Gail’s Café. They appeared to be paying a lot of attention to shoppers and thei r belongings rather than the market itself. The individuals were identified as potential pickpockets. The two were stopped and


searched and one had a smart phone on their person which did not belong to them. Investigations following the arrest indicated that the individual in question had been a menace on the market for some time. Officers attended court


on the 4th June 2019 where the individual in question was found guilty and issued with an order banning from attending Portobello Market and indeed the whole of the Borough of Kensington and Chelsea for the following 18 months. Por to b e l l o Ma r ke t s
