Well, I wasn’t expecting that!..

Following on from last months’ column, I have had plenty of people come into the shop and ask me about ‘the ring’ and ‘the book’… Where do I begin? The ring; all 2.56 sparkly carats of it, was gone in under 3 days…. sadly NO, my expected ‘Colin Firth’ type chap didn’t show up and whisk me and the ring off to the Caribbean.

Moral of that story - big rocks sell - fast - if you have any laying around (like you do!) Bring them in please!

The book, Great Expectations had more, wow, gee whizz, golly gosh, cliff hanging moments of sheer ‘surely not’ than I could have ever expected for a book first published in 1861, that’s 157 years ago! Charles Dickens was blazing a trail that the production team for the Jeremy Kyle show with their lie detectors and DNA testing antics would have been delighted to have as a whole series of shows and I feel a bit bereft to have finished it now.

My next knock me down with a feather ‘I really was NOT expecting that moment’ came from family! Daddy turns 70 on the 25th of this month (I’m closed during half-term as I am taking him away for a big surprise birthday trip!) and next year he and my ‘step mum’ have been together for 30 years – and have only gone and decided to mark the occasion by FINALLY getting MARRIED! Gee whizz indeed! That totally blew my mind and I am tasked with sorting out an engagement ring and not a wedding but an eternity ring for the wedding day – she’s done the eternity bit already, so reckons she deserves more bling (yes, yes, yes, I wholly agree!) and Daddy needs a wedding ring, so I am designing and having one handmade by my jewellers for him. I am so excited! Better still, they are getting married on my birthday next March, which seems the best way to ignore the revolting sounding number of 37 and celebrate a much better occasion! Anyone looking to part with ladies’ rings that may fit the bill, I haven’t found the right ones for her yet!

My final unexpected realisation is that next month I have been open for 5 YEARS! Now that blows my mind on many levels, the fact that I took the leap of faith in the start, the survival of the never- ending road closures and roadworks then the flooding but what humbles me greatly is that without YOUR support and loyalty through it all I just would not be here, so THANK YOU. Look out for details of my fabulous ‘All Bling’ 5th birthday party to be held on Saturday 17th November…

Love and Sparkles! Tessa
