EMILY VISITS THRELKELD VILLAGE HALL

December sees multi-award-winning Scottish singer Emily Smith return to the road with her hugely popular Christmas show ‘Songs for Christmas’.

Now in its eighth year, the show is selling out venues across the UK bringing seasonal cheer to castles, churches and theatres.

A winner of BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year, Scots Singer of the Year and BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards Nominee, Emily has established herself as one of the finest singers to come out of Scotland in the last 15 years. She has toured all over the world and alongside her solo career has collaborated with musical greats such as Richard Thompson, Barbara Dickson, Jerry Douglas and Mary Chapin Carpenter.

Television appearances include BBC Four Transatlantic Sessions and BBC One Songs of Praise.

Der Vogelfanger bin ich ja from The Magic Flute Soloist: Christian Taylor

Piano Concerto in A, K488 Soloist: Susan Allison Tantum Ergo Soloist: Christian Taylor Symphony No 35 the Haffner

The West Lakeland Orchestra has been performing concerts at venues around West Cumbria for many years, varying from large scale, semi-professional symphonic concerts, to smaller chamber orchestra performances of predominantly Classical music, such as our forthcoming one on 24th November.

However, we have now put down our roots in Cockermouth with its strong musical traditions and vibrant cultural scene and are keen to collaborate with other local musicians and musical groups.

We are constantly on the lookout for new players, particularly strings, so if you play at a reasonable standard (~grade 6+) and would like to play with the orchestra, please contact us.

At the live shows’ audiences are invited to sing along with traditional carols, tap their toes to upbeat instrumentals, or simply close their eyes and let Emily’s evocative voice help them dwell on the joy and peace that Christmas can bring.
