I know that many feel sad once summer starts slipping away but I'm always ready to greet the autumn; I just love getting out on the fells amongst all the gorgeous autumn colours and then returning to the hyyge embrace of a warm home.

I see it as a great time to realign with my intentions, turn my thoughts inwards and deepen my commitment to working on myself. Plus, for me it is a time for gratitude.

Yoga For Beginners: starts 25th September, 7.30pm This 4-week course is aimed at those new to yoga seeking to

improve their range of movement, core strength and stability as well as anyone looking to revisit the fundamentals of yoga.

This is not an original viewpoint; the ancient healthcare system of Ayurveda see the transitional period of autumn as the best time to make new resolutions. And, in so many cultures, autumn is a time for thanksgiving – a time to appreciate what has been sown and reaped during the year.

Through the hectic summer months our focus is often on outdoor activities and we can neglect our emotional needs. But the autumn offers a chance to calmly “take stock” and review all aspects of our health as we approach winter. It is a time to focus our energy so we can truly fulfil our potential – this is “tending our heart fire”.

My own health “review” always starts with my physical health; we need optimum digestion & elimination, a nutrient rich diet and a “well-loved” liver to ensure our immune system is ready to fight all that winter throws at us. Then I look at all the things that “make my heart sing” that may have fallen by the wayside. The book I want to write, the music I want to listen to, the photos I want to take and the people I want to hang with. Perhaps we must ditch some things that no longer serve us to create time for what our heart truly desires.

For me, respecting the new season’s rhythm means a less hurried yoga practise, warming foods and getting outdoors as much as I can. This is how I tend the flame inside of me!
