ALL THE LATEST NEWS, VIEWS AND STORIES FROM AROUND YOUR LOCAL AREA:AUGUST/SEPTEMBER LAMONT PRIDMORE ONCE

AGAIN NAMED AS THE BEST FAMILY BUSINESS TO WORK FOR IN THE NORTH WEST

Continued from cover story... Organised by one of the UK’s largest networks of family-run companies, Family Business Place, the awards held recently at Wembley Stadium recognised the country’s bests multi- generational companies.

The award-winning firm has previously picked up a number of awards at the event, previously known as the Red Ribbon awards, so it was delighted to learn that the judges had selected it for the Best Business to Work For once again, after it won the award in 2015 and 2017.

As well as winning this award, the team also took home the Big Heart category at this year’s ceremony – an award it also won in 2015.

The awards were attended by some of the UK’s most exciting and successful family-owned businesses and gave Lamont Pridmore the chance to meet with peers and discuss the strengths of their unique business model.

The National Family Business Awards regularly sees thousands of entries a year, ranging from Scottish food business through to plumbing firms in London.

Speaking about the firm’s latest wins at the prestigious national awards, Graham Lamont, Chief Executive at Lamont Pridmore, said: “We are so excited to once again be coming home to the North West having won so many awards.

“We are very proud of being a family-run firm, so it was nice to be able to meet so many other companies that have multiple generations within their business. The success of so many companies demonstrates the benefits of a company being family-owned.

“Lamont Pridmore has a long association with family businesses and has won several awards for its work with companies across the UK that are managed by the same family for generations.”

Les Walker, Managing Director at Lamont Pridmore’s Workington office, added: “Family businesses continue to have a vital role in the UK economy and we know only too well the strengths and disadvantages of keeping a company within one family.

“However, our unique perspective as a family-run firm of accountants means we are able to understand the issues other family businesses face and offer bespoke advice. Our latest win at these awards helps us to re-affirm our position as one of the UK’s top family practices.”

WWW.THECOCKERMOUTHPOST.CO.UK ISSUE 428 | 23 AUGUST 2018 | 53 INNER WHEEL CLUB OF COCKERMOUTH SAYS GOODBYE!

The ten members gathered at Hundith Hill Hotel on a beautiful sunny day for our last ever meeting as the Inner Wheel Club of Cockermouth. This made it a sad occasion, as our 68-year history of friendship and service over the years in the name of Inner Wheel has brought a richness to all our lives. This includes the lives of many past members and those who have benefitted from the financial support sent to numerous organisations, both at home and overseas. Yet we were able to look back on so many happy days and to celebrate the friendship and the fun we have shared.

Our Afternoon Tea was a great success, with glorious weather and an above- average attendance, possibly in support as this was ‘Our Final Fling’. We had a very happy afternoon and made £674.00 for our charities.

We assigned our final funds to the following charities: RAF Cadets; Young

Carers; Cricket Club Youth Division; Rugby Club Juniors; Swimming Club Juniors; Parkinson's Club (local); Dementia Awareness and Hospice at Home.

International Funds went to Mary's Meals; Shelterbox; Children

of Chernobyl; WaterAid and Dr. Nick Cowan's Arugat, Nepal Project.

Inner Wheel is an International Organisation, which seeks to promote friendship and understanding between members all over the world. The Cockermouth Club has worked to support these aims and along the way, has made lifelong friendships and has been able to help individuals and organisations with donations and sponsorship. We shall remember our Inner Wheel days with affection and thanks for all it has meant to so many through the years.
