By the time this article has been printed, well over 300 of our students will have received their G.C.S.E or A Level results. There will undoubtedly have been some amazing achievements, many of which will be reported in the press. As a school, we have an excellent record of exam results and every year we are impressed by what our students achieve. These exam results are important. They provide our students with the qualifications needed to access future education and employment opportunities. It goes without saying that they are a product of the dedication and hard work of students and staff over many years.

It is equally important to remember, that these exams results are only one part of what makes our students successful and they do not define who they are. They will tell us something about the achievements of our young people but certainly not everything. The same hard work and dedication that produces great exam results, also goes into all of the other opportunities that are provided daily for

students at Cockermouth School. The ones that help build confidence, encourage students to meet new challenges and develop resilience. I am impressed every day with the thoughtfulness, kindness and respect our students show to each other and to those in the wider community. Staff in our school know that some of the greatest successes can never be measured on paper. It is because of this, that we look at the success of our students in the broadest terms and take every opportunity to develop our students within and outside of the curriculum.

For those who have recently left our school, we look forward to hearing what you achieve next. For those who have joined our Sixth Form from other schools and our new Year 7 students, we welcome you into our school community and look forward to working alongside you and sharing in your future success.
