The Club has been very busy in recent weeks, with events on Sunday and Wednesday evenings. The evening grass autotests have been very popular with excellent entries and lots of good driving followed by a great super!

The Lake District Classic and Targa Rallies attracted crews from all over the north of England and Scotland and in the wonderful weather, there were plenty of compliments about the quality of organisation. The Targa Rally was won by Paul and Esther Bowness in an MX5 which followed on from Paul’s outright win at the Scammonden Hill Climb in his racing car. Just to balance the sexes, in the Bowness household Esther took the ladies prize at the June grass autotest!

MG Live! Sam did well in only his third race in the series and put the car on class pole position (pictured above) and being well up with cars in the class above, until a gearbox issue hindered progress, but he still finished second on class. In the second race, Sam made a great start and took the lead and battled until the differential failed and he was forced to retire.

The Club’s two sponsored young drivers have been in action recently. Sam Kirkpatrick is contesting the MG Car Club’s MG Trophy in the MG ZR owned by the Wheatsheaf Garage and racing on the Silverstone GP circuit last month at

Jack Palmer is contesting the BTRDA National Autotest Championship, so he is competing against the best in the UK. He has taken part in two rounds so far and is well up to the pace of the top drivers. There have been some niggling reliability issues, but Jack is doing well in the novice section of the Championship and learning all the time. He will be on home ground on 22nd July, when the series comes to Maryport due to a

late venue change from Dumfries. The event will be co-organised by South of Scotland Car Club and Wigton MC.

August sees the Club’s biggest events, the Cumbria Classic and Motorsport Show and both Sam and Jack’s car will be on display there. There is still time to get an entry in and forms are on the club website.
