KAT SHAYLER SOCIAL MEDIA QUEEN

Kay Shayler owns a social media training company called Sharpfox which offers tailored social media coaching for small businesses and start-ups. With a love of fashion and accessories and a style of her own, Kat juggles her business as social media queen with family life in the Cotswolds.

I am writing this month’s column after having a serious online security wake up call!

I went to a brilliant event at The Cheltenham Science Festival where a cyber security firm were talking about 'keeping your personal data safe online'. I thought I was pretty savvy when it came to my online digital ‘footprint’ but, it turns out I’ve been making some classic mistakes…. oversharing on social media, using the same password for everything, you name it...I’ve been cyber-blacklisted!

Whilst tearing my hair out trying to remember exactly which password it is that I’ve used for everything, I now find myself on the slippery slope to the SUMMER HOLIDAYS. What to do with the little darlings from July to September? As working mothers, I think we tend to panic about pretty much everything as we furiously juggle work deadlines, school runs, kids clubs, packed lunches and everything else we cram in to our days. So, I have decided to try and shoe- horn in less mundane stuff this summer and instead swap it for fun experiences!

Fortunately for us Cotswoldians, we really are spoiled for choice when it comes to things to do over the summer, both for children and adults. I already have The Big Feastival at the end of August in the ‘fun’ calendar - the kids are so excited to be camping there for the weekend (I’m pretending it’s camping - it’s glamping of the highest order), I'm ready to pull out my worst mum dance moves for Craig David..

Pre August, I will be taking the children to the Lego animal trail at Slimbridge. I’ve

pretty much banned the damn stuff from our house due to too many foot-on-lego accidents – those things are painful!

It’s not all about the children though, I’m really looking forward to the Lost Cinema - which is an open air cinema. They're showing 'Pretty Woman' which is one of my favourite films at Marlborough College on the 7th July, you'll catch me with a glass of Pimms in one hand and hopefully no umbrella in the other... Have a fabulous July
