Burgeoning Canadian Talent Showcased at Ottawa Dressage Festival

Ottawa, ON, May 23, 2018 – Canadian dressage ath- letes were out in full force at the CDI 3* Ottawa Dres- sage Festival, held May 18- 20, 2018 in Ottawa, ON. Competition was stiff,

with high scores posted by Canadian athletes across the board. Brittany Fraser- Beaulieu of Saint Bruno, QC captured first in the CDI 3* Grand Prix Special on May 20 with a score of 72.319% aboard All In (Tango x Damiro), the 13- year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding she co-owns with her father, Craig Fraser and husband, Marc-Andre Beaulieu. The pair also earned second place in the CDI 3* Grand Prix on May 18 on a score of 70.652%. Megan Lane

of

Loretto, ON showed great promise in her new partner- ship with Deer Ridge Equestrian’s 14-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding,

Zodiac MW (Rousseau x Amethist). The pair took the top spot in the CDI 3* Grand Prix on May 18 with a score of 70.696%, and tacked on a third-place fin- ish in the CDI 3* Grand Prix Special on May 20 with a score of 69.872%. “I am very proud of

Deer Ridge’s Zodiac,” said Lane. “I’m so thrilled with him - especially for having a second consecutive win within his first six months of competing at this level. My favourite part about him is that he loves to work and compete, so I couldn’t ask for a better trait in a compe- tition horse.” In the CDI 3* Grand

Prix Freestyle on May 19, it was Jill Irving of Moncton, NB who emerged victori- ous. Riding Windhaven Farm’s 13-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding, Arthur (Jazz x Contango), she scored 70.450% for the win. Tina Irwin of Stouffville, ON followed in second place with a score of 67.700% on Laurencio (Laurentio x Donnerhall), the 11-year-old Oldenburg gelding she owns with her husband, Jaimey Irwin. Historic Toronto Stable Burns In Victoria Day Fire

Sixteen school horses lost their lives when Sunnybrook Stables’ main barn was destroyed in a two-alarm blaze.

By Karen Briggs In the 21st century, horses and

urban humans don’t often mix. But Toronto’s Sunnybrook Stables, lo- cated in the lush Sunnybrook Park at Leslie and Eglinton, gave inner-city kids (and adults) a chance to interact with horses and learn to ride. Along with its sister facility, the Riding Academy, located at Exhibition Place near the Lake Ontario water- front, Sunnybrook offered a unique opportunity to Toronto’s urbanites: stables that can be reached by mass transit. The fire that destroyed Sunny-
