However, St Mary’s is still consecrated, which means it may be used for special religious occasions, so the Remembrance and Civic Services are held there annually together with the Star Ceremony to welcome Advent, when the star is lit on the church tower. There will also be exhibits from Bungay Museum which holds the many pictures taken by the late Frank Honeywood, a Town Recorder who was meticulous in record- ing changes to the town’s streetscape, plus current pictures of the newest additions to our historic town. In addition it is hoped to have a section showing artists’ impressions of Bungay along with a schools’ competi- tion showing how the younger generation view our buildings. In October, “Bungay during

Wartime” will precede the cen- tenary celebrations for the end of WW1, and will feature material from that war along with an exploration of the effects of WW2 on the town. Evacuees,

NEW Garden laid out

HARLESTON U3A is now one of the biggest and most popular organisations in the area. Our AGM will take place on Wednes- day 16th May at 2pm in the Masonic Rooms. There is a hard- working committee headed by Mick Newman and also some non-committee volunteers who help out with publicity, refresh- ments and the raffle. Following on from the busi-

ness part of the afternoon, there will be a talk entitled “Medieval Medicine: Blood, Pus and Urine” by University of East Anglia lecturer, Joy Hawkins. The annual membership fee

remains unchanged for 2018/19 at £14. Since this includes join- ing any of our 20+ groups, we feel that this is very good value.

Harleston U3A Seize the opportunity to liven

up your life in the company of people who want to develop their sporting, musical, creative and learning interests now that they are no longer in full time work. One of the “golden oldies”

regularly played and sung by the ukulele group is “Enjoy yourself. It’s later than you think” which sums up the attitude of our mem- bers who feel that joining U3A has enabled them to do just that! If you want to find out more,

come along to one of the monthly meetings held on the third Wednesday of the month, 2pm, Masonic Rooms or contact membership secretary, Kim on 01986 788149. There is also a wealth of information on u3asites.org.uk/harleston.
