Also at Buxton Boat in Sunset is this Colin Archer designed cutter built in Norway in 1950. He is making repairs to her stem, a couple of planks and maybe the sternpost. This boat is named the MARION D. and was owned by William Randolph Hearst for his mistress, the ac- tress Marion Davis. Hearst managed her career and funded her fi lms. She was also involved in a scandal aboard another Hearst yacht in 1924 when fi lm producer Thomas Ince died.

Forging high quality tools for boat builders, timber framers, & others

“I manage the docking and refitting of 200 vessels. So when it came to refitting my own yacht,

I chose Portland Yacht Services.” —Master Mariner John H. Bowering (Adm. Ret.) aboard his yacht, Osprey As a professional fleet manager, John knows all the pitfalls

of working with a boatyard. But after having Portland Yacht Services re-instrument; rebuild the engine and gearbox; rewire and re-plumb;

and soda-blast and recoat Osprey’s hull, he says, “I’m entirely impressed with their skills, quality of work and ability to come up with practical solutions to seemingly intractable problems. And they’re great fun to work with!”
