Brilliant bear hunt ‘We’ve been holding our Bussage Bear Hunt annually for the past three years. It runs over a whole weekend – six hours in total across a Saturday and Sunday in September. The trail starts at school and goes through

the local woods – a perfect setting for bears! We dot bears all along the route, sitting on fences, grassy patches and even up trees. Our bears have included Pirate Black Bear-d, Pep-paw Pig and Back to the Fur-ture, plus the famous Roger Fede-bear and Queen Vict-roar-ia. Our pupils and their families make the bears and their scenes, which we collect a week before the event. This enables us to plan the placement of each bear on the route. We sell maps at the start of the trail, and

families then use these to guide them around the woods. The maps are marked with colourful bees, which correspond with a laminated bee at each bear’s location. The walk takes around 60 to 90 minutes at a child’s pace, including stops to look at bears and take photos. This year, we introduced an ice cream stop at the halfway point, which was very successful. The aim is to cross off all the bees on the

map and return to the school for tea, coffee and cake. We also run a bear-themed tombola and offer face painting to further boost  for a souvenir badge, and is also entered into a prize draw to win a family outing. Local companies can sponsor a bear for £25,

and in return we offer a sponsor sign, featuring the company’s details, which is placed in the ground next to the bear. We also promote the businesses on our Facebook page and make  We try to build relationships with small local companies, starting six months in advance to give us time to arrange everything.
