PERSONAL CIRCUITS AT CHANGES GYM ~NEWS FROM SPORTSTREK COACHING ~

How many of us have started a gym programme and never stuck at it beyond the first few weeks when we train with all guns blazing?

A GOOD FEW I’M SURE!

Since August, at our Changes Gym, our members book in for ‘Personal Circuits’ a cross between Personal Training (without added cost) and Circuit Training.

We design each session, working for each exercise for a time period (for example, 30 seconds) before moving on to the next. No more traditional 3 sets of 10 on a machine, before moving on to another machine. The results have been fantastic and coming up to our 5th Birthday, we have never known the gym as vibrant!

Here’s what a few of our members think of Personal Circuits:

“The circuit sessions with Sportstrek staff are short, sharp and very good, as the staff make it different and fun in their relaxed gym.” Mike Sadler

“Personal Circuits at Changes are fantastic. I had a lot of injuries, including back trouble but these have improved through training. The 1:1 sessions are always varied, fun and energising and my fitness has improved dramatically.” Rosie

IN FITNESS AND IN HEALTH! Baby Yoga

Sometimes, the vision you had of how parenting a young baby would be, does not quite match the reality; the endless cycle of feeding, nappy changing and trying to fit jobs in around a baby’s sleep pattern can often feel like a chore and more functional than fun and ever more so when subsequent children come along.

Baby Yoga is a wonderful way to make time for just you and your baby to connect and bond with each other. Through a series of exercises and poses designed for both of you to enjoy, you can safely begin to exercise again and refine your figure, whilst strengthening and toning your child’s muscles to prepare them for the next stages of their development, be it sitting up, crawling or walking.

Baby Yoga will not only help your baby relax, improving sleep quality but it is good for alleviating trapped wind, soothing colic and constipation and calms a fractious baby. It can help you de-stress too; if your baby is more relaxed, generally you will be too. It is so easy to stay at home and focus everything around your child’s needs but remember your own; getting out and about talking to other parents is a great way to make new friends, share your experiences and realise you are not alone when the going gets tough!

The movements, songs and sensory play in a baby yoga class will develop your child’s body and mind awareness and co- ordination. It also helps with their speech and social development as they interact in a constructive way with their class mates and carer. Similarly, you will learn your babies’ cues and understand them better.

I look forward to welcoming you to our next 6-week course every Tuesday at 1.00pm in Cockermouth Pilates Studio starting 17th April. Booking is essential, so please contact the Studio to reserve your place.

Derwent Valley Cycling Club Celebrate 90 Years of Cycling

Cockermouth has been home to a cycling club since 1928, when Derwent Valley Wheelers was established. It was replaced with DVCC in the ‘80s and while names have changed over the years, collective passion for the club and local cycling has remained resolute.

Chair of DVCC, David Gow said: “It’s simply about riding your bike. Exploring Cumbria’s fantastic hills, valleys and cafes in good company has always been the club’s primary activity but its small, friendly membership also contributes to the wider community, organising a series of events and raising money for charity each year.”

Event highlights on DVCC’s summer calendar include a family-friendly cyclo- cross race at Copeland Sports Academy in Whitehaven and a time trial league from Cockermouth to complement the races organised by another local club, Velo Club Cumbria.

If you are interested in becoming part of Cockermouth’s cycling history, DVCC meets most Sundays at 9.15am in Market Place, Cockermouth for a sociable ride out. You can also find them in The Swan Inn on Kirkgate, Cockermouth on the last Tuesday of every month from 7.30pm.
