KEEPING YOU IN TOUCH - YOUR FREE MONTHLY NEWSPAPER DELIVERED DOOR-TO-DOOR FOR 31 YEARS PADDLE PUPILS COMPETE IN FIRST®

Pupils from Eaglesfield Paddle CE Primary Academy competed in the Institution of Engineering and Technology’s (IET) FIRST® LEGO®

League UK and Ireland Final on

Saturday 24th February at University of the West of England in Bristol.

The science and technology challenge, which is aimed at 9-16 year olds, tasks teams to build a robot to tackle a series of missions and create an innovative solution to a real world problem. This year’s HYDRO DYNAMICSSM

challenge was all

about water – how we find, transport, use, or dispose of it.

Over a number of weeks, the team worked with STEM ambassadors, Caroline Waters from Balfour Beatty and Rob Way from Sellafield, to develop their skills in research, planning, programming Lego robots and learning about ‘core values’ of communication, co-operation, integration and respect.

The children said: “We have had a great time working on the robot game and project. We have learned so many new things. Taking part in the final was an amazing experience.”

Claire Fleming, Deputy Headteacher said: “The competition was an excellent opportunity for the children to experience engineering in action. We would like to thank Balfour Beatty for sponsoring us throughout the season and Balfour Beatty, Sellafield Ltd and Allerdale Borough Council for their support enabling the team to go to the Bristol Final.”
