IN with a Floral bang! Our first meeting of the year in January and we were very happy to wel- come several guests along with our usual members. Hopefully they all enjoyed their evening and will become new members in the future. Our Club outing this year is to
Ely Cathedral Flower Festival on Thursday 29th June. The cost of £33, includes a meal on the way home so is as usual very good value. If you would like to join us please contact June on 01394 384803 to book a place. A £5 deposit will be required to secure your seat. Volunteers were requested to
fulfil our allocated volunteering dates for the St Elizabeth Hos- pice and the Children’s Hospice. This requires one pedestal, one table arrangement and one arrangement for EACH. Flow- ers are provided by the club and floral foam is at the hospice. Available dates are May 4th and

August 24th. Please contact June if you are able to help with this. The winner of the last News-
letter competition, winning a £10 Garden Gift Voucher was Val Green. Congratulations to her. More people needed to enter please. The winner of the Advanced Practice piece was Linda Fosker and the Novice winner was Jan Richardson. The Single stem winning entry was a stunning Hellebore and was entered by Jenny Payne. June then introduced our
speaker for the evening, a much loved friend on his 17th visit to our club, Alan Smith, whose demonstration was entitled “Winter Symphony.” Alan’s first arrangement was
depicting the fireworks welcom- ing in the New Year. Using a stand with two florets he placed gold sprayed eucalyptus, wired bear grass, dried Alliums with bright orange and Cerise mini Gerberas. The design was only missing the bang. Amazing, and carried out with Alan’s usual humour and chat. The next arrangement and
indeed, all the following ones, were quickly put together with the air of a definite professional. Using Tortured Hazel, Senecio, Myrtle, Camelia, Skimmia with fir cones, Carnations in a variety of colours, orchids, chrysanthe- mums, Blue Spruce, Iris, Alstro-

meria and Witch Hazel, Alan truly was delightful to watch. Linda Ellis gave the vote of thanks saying that we all hoped that this would not be Alan’s last visit to us. Everyone had enjoyed watching his expertise and enjoyed his stories, helpful hints and jokes. Some members were lucky
enough to win these arrange- ments in the following raffle whilst enjoying refreshments. Hopefully we will see you and your friends on March 22nd at Wickham Market Village Hall at 7.30pm when Pat Barton will be our demonstrator and her topic will be “Butterfly Effect.” New members are more than
welcome, the first visit is FREE. All you need is a love of flowers. Come and watch a professional at work. For any queries please contact June Allum on 01394 384803.
