We were proud to receive the Jet2 Top City breaks travel agent award for 2017

Well 2018 started with a bang! CT has been absolutely crazy busy so a huge thank you to all our customers old and new for your support. Even after 37 years I’m really proud of how hard the team work and of how good our collective knowledge is of the world, it is very very rare for us to say we don’t know the answer no matter how weird or wonderful the request. I had a quick count up of the years we have all worked in travel and it’s well over 250 so I do think the general consensus is that we know what we’re doing all least most of the time and while we will never profess to be as cheap as the internet we will always advise you honestly and let you know of any pitfalls you may not be aware of. It’s also worth remembering we are local, all of our holidays are financially protected and our holiday helpline is never on holiday as we are on call 24/7 365 days a year.

Supporting our local community... Throughout the year we hold themed evenings, all donations collected are given to local charities...

Our new recruit Bethan has settled in very well, her previous job was as a rep for Thomas Cook for 3 years so it was probably a good grounding for working in an asylum where the lunatics are the employees!

I was chuffed to hear our action man Prince Harry has decided to marry his fiancé Meghan Markle, he’s had to conquer many hurdles in his life and including the tragic loss of his mother, fighting the Taliban in Afghanistan and being the face of the Invictus games to name a few so it’s fantastic that he has finally found the one! (His dad was also a visitor to Cockermouth Travel after the 2009 floods although he didn’t book a holiday, he takes the wife to a place in Scotland called Balmoral where I think they have a caravan)

Harry and Meghan are going to need a honeymoon and the exterior of CT would be much improved with a Royal seal above the door so I have emailed Meg (apparently, she wears the trousers!) with a few suggestions. 1) A night in the Station Hotel Newcastle (all visitors suddenly gain fertility powers! Mr Silver & Mrs Fox honeymooned there and I was born 6 months later! Amazing!) 2) Iceland – one of my favourite ever destinations and an ideal climate for those with a fair complexion. 3) Rwanda – the bookies favourite and also on my list of places to go – it is famous for its mountain gorillas and there’s a new One and Only luxury hotel about to open, it’s not cheap so fingers crossed if Harry is strapped for cash after paying for the wedding his Granny might help him out.
