THE RIGHT TIME IS ALWAYS NOW
Last month, I shared some of the life lessons I have learned from my cats who enjoy a very nice life indeed! Here are the final five:
1 – Focus on your mind, body and spirit
When we talk about balance, it is about ensuring that not only are we focusing on our physical wellbeing, we are also taking care of our mental and spiritual health too. I often see people, who take great care of their physical bodies but don’t take time to consider the other aspects of their wellbeing.
There are two practices that have really helped me achieve balance; guided meditations and having a focus on being grateful. Simple approaches but highly effective! Muppet prefers to practice yoga.
2 – Take a step back to get the full picture
It is easy to get swept up in day-to-day activity and lose sight of what is going on holistically. It is helpful, every now and again, to take a step back from all the activity and have a look around and see where your life is in balance and where it is not. For example, you might be doing great in your career and spending
lots of time working but it might mean that your social life has suffered as a result. The key is to try and achieve the balance that is right for you.
3 – Sometimes we just want to hide
Life will always have its ups and downs and there may be occasions when you want to bury your head under the duvet(or hide behind the blinds in Muppet’s case! Sometimes you just need to be able to ‘hide away’ to deal with whatever is concerning you. It’s ok to do this and can be really
restorative. Just don’t be away for too long, the world needs you!
4 – Sometimes you just need a nap!
In the UK, we have not really embraced the philosophy of the afternoon siesta. It is one of the traditions that I really love whenever I take a holiday in Europe. I love that it is seen as sensible to take a break mid-afternoon and have a short nap that is just long enough for you to feel refreshed rather than sluggish. I
was recently listening to Arianna Huffington being interviewed and she has built two ‘napping rooms’ in the Huffington Post so that people can have a cat nap! If it’s good enough for Arianna... oh and Phoebe… it’s good enough for you!
5 – My favourite, Be HAPPY!
I am not sure I have ever seen a cat that doesn’t look happy. So, behave like the cat that has got the cream, practise the life lessons from being a cat and BE HAPPY.
Sadly, we had to say goodbye to our gorgeous Phoebe this month but at least we know she
had a beautiful life for the 18 years she was with us.
